Smith at Sterling Sound from the original analog tapes !\n \n 180 gram LPs pressed at Quality Record Pressings !\n \n Stoughton Printing gatefold old-style tip-on jackets !\n \n Series supervised by Chad Kassem CEO of Acoustic Sounds !\n \n Seeking to offer definitive audiophile grade versions of some of the most historic and best jazz records ever recorded, Verve Label Group and Universal Music Enterprises' new audiophile Acoustic Sounds vinyl reissue series will launch July 31, 2020 with inaugural releases the sensational collaborations, Stan Getz and João Gilberto's landmark Getz / Gilberto (1964) and the remarkable Louis Armstrong Meets Oscar Peterson (1959).\n \n Utilizing the skills of the top mastering engineers and the unsurpassed production craft of Quality Record Pressings, all titles will be mastered from the original analog tapes, pressed on 180 gram vinyl and packaged by Stoughton Printing Co. in high-quality gatefold sleeves with tip-on jackets. The releases will be supervised by Chad Kassem, CEO of Acoustic Sounds, the world's largest source for audiophile recordings.\n \n The Acoustic Sounds series will feature two releases a month highlighting a different storied label spanning Verve / UMe's extraordinarily rich archive. To begin with, the series will largely focus on some of the most popular albums from the ‘50s and ‘60s in their unmatched catalog. The July releases will celebrate two of Verve's most beloved albums, the aforementioned Getz / Gilberto and Louis Armstrong Meets Oscar Peterson, and will be followed in August by John Coltrane's immortal Impulse! records, A Love Supreme (1964) and Ballads (1963). Two of Nina Simone's legendary Phillips albums I Put A Spell On You (1965) and Pastel Blues (1965) will come in September which will be succeeded in October by two from the EmArcy Records vault : Sarah Vaughan's self-titled 1954 album, the vocal great's sole collaboration with influential trumpeter Clifford Brown, who is also represented alongside pioneering drummer Max Roach on the hard bop classic, Study In Brown (1955). November will spotlight Decca Records with the iconic Peggy Lee's first album, Black Coffee (1956), and composer George Russell's important New York, N.Y. (1959) performed by an all-star orchestra that includes Bill Evans, John Coltrane, Art Farmer and Milt Hinton, among others. All titles and exact release dates are listed below. Additional titles will be announced as the series progresses.\n \n "We are excited to launch our Acoustic Sounds series", said Bruce Resnikoff, President & CEO of UMe. "Verve and UMe have one of the richest jazz catalogs ever recorded and our goal is to give vinyl and music lovers the best possible versions of classic albums. The Acoustic Sounds series is designed to appeal to today's most discriminating fans, and those discovering this treasured legacy for the first time, looking for the very finest in both artistic content and audio quality".\n \n "We're very honored to have Verve and UME partnering with us to create what we believe will be the highest quality reissues of some of the world's greatest jazz albums. Each step in our production process from title selection to mastering, pressing and packaging is designed to meet the highest standards, and we want everyone who hears these albums to feel the love and hard work we put into everything we do", Kassem said. "We've long had a great relationship with UME, pressing classic titles at our Quality Record Pressings from many of their highest-profile artists. We look forward to strengthening that partnership even further with these reissues from Verve, home of the world's largest jazz catalog".\n \n Louis Armstrong Meets Oscar Peterson is a brilliant undertaking in which Verve's legendary "house pianist" encountered one of jazz's most revered giants. A significant part of Peterson's genius was his ability to be an exceptional pianist and leader, while also being a perfect accompanist when the circumstance demands... and in a situation like this, to be both. Armstrong is not only recognized as one of the most innovative, singular, fascinating and beloved artists of the 20th century, but also one of the most generous in the way he embraced and stimulated his collaborators. Backed by the Oscar Peterson Trio bassist Ray Brown and guitarist Herb Ellis, and augmented by frequent fourth member Louis Bellson on drums these peerless heavyweights created an album that is utterly compelling, radiantly jubilant and consummate in artistry.\n \n The musicians provided the setting for the jewel that is Pops, with Peterson perfectly embellishing every phrase Armstrong sings or plays. The focus here is primarily upon his totally personal and thoroughly captivating vocal style, with his occasional trumpet solos limited in all but one case to a single chorus. Essentially culled from the Great American Song Book Cole Porter, the Gershwins and Harold Arlen among the songwriters the pieces range from poignant ballads and blues to effusive easy-grooved swing. Each song is an exquisitely crafted gem that will warm the heart and enrich the soul.\n """ -prixVente: "60.00" -delaiLivraison: App\Enum\TempsLivraisonEnum {#1912 …} -musicienOrchestre: "Louis Armstrong (trumpet, vocals), Oscar Peterson (piano), Herb Ellis (guitar), Ray Brown (double bass), Louie Bellson (drums)" -sonMusic: App\Enum\SonMusicEnum {#1167 …} -grammageMusic: App\Enum\GrammageMusicEnum {#1171 …} -rpmMusic: App\Enum\RPMMusicEnum {#1173 …} -lpsMusic: 1 -setBoxMusic: false -limitedEdition: true -preCommande: false -selectionAAD: false -extraitYoutube: "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gL9l40FqdMw" -referenceProduit: "Acoustic Sounds Series 68901" -titreMorceau: [ [ "nom" => "1. Recorded in late 1965 on the culminating evening of a historic week-long run at The Penthouse in Seattle, A Love Supreme: Live In Seattle is a musical revelation of historic importance, capturing Coltrane as he began to expand his classic quartet adding Pharoah Sanders on second saxophone and Donald Garrett on second bass and catapulting him into the intense, spiritually focused final phase of his career.\r\n \r\n The significance of A Love Supreme : Live In Seattle is heightened by the fact that Coltrane seldom performed his four-part suite after originally recording it in the studio in 1964. Composed and created as a public declaration of his personal spiritual beliefs and universalist sentiment, it became a best-seller and received a Grammy nod the next year. For more than six decades, it seemed the only recorded public performance of A Love Supremetook place at a French festival at Juan-Les-Pins in July 1965 and was released almost twenty years ago. The tape reels containing this performance from October 1965 sat in the private collection of Seattle saxophonist and educator Joe Brazil, heard by a few fortunate musicians and friends and largely unknown until now.\r\n \r\n A Love Supreme : Live In Seattle is a fascinating and rare performance of the full suite, marked by a looser and more improvisational approach, and a overriding sense of communal participation – much like a Sunday church service; the lineup featured John Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders on saxophones, McCoy Tyner on piano, Elvin Jones on drums, and Jimmy Garrison and Donald (Rafael) Garrett on basses. Carlos Ward, then a young saxophonist just getting started on the scene, sat in as well.\r\n \r\n As music historian Ashley Kahn puts it in the liner notes, A Love Supreme : Live In Seattle "offers the first evidence of the master of spiritual expression performing his signature work in the close confines of a jazz club... on October 2, 1965, a Saturday, in Seattle, the necessary elements were in alignment : music, players, venue, a spirit of connection, a certain political charge. Coltrane chose to perform it, and significantly, the moment was recorded". Kahn's extensive liner notes tell the story not only through the words of the musicians themselves, but also through a number of witnesses whose lives were changed by Coltrane's visit to Seattle in 1965 (his sole visit to the city as a leader), including Brazil, Ward, and bassist David Friesen, who states : "I've always pursued the spiritual aspect of the music and I still do. I remember sitting with Coltrane during one break that week and... what touched me was the way he treated other people. He showed mercy and kindness to people from what I could see around me for the week that I was there".\r\n \r\n The music on A Love Supreme : Live In Seattle was recorded with a two-microphone set-up onstage, connected to an Ampex reel-to-reel machine, and the only copies of the tapes were well cared for, yielding a remarkably clear and distortion-free recording. "What's remarkable is that tapes from this era often suffer over the years from heat or moisture damage, or simply being stacked horizontally", writes engineer Kevin Reeves who produced this release. "However, these tapes are in excellent condition... and the results are among the best amateur recordings of John Coltrane we've had the pleasure to work on".\r\n The story of the A Love Supreme suite is the story of John Coltrane his musical journey, and his spiritual path. It has become one of the most celebrated and influential recordings to come out of the jazz canon, revered and studied by musicians far beyond the jazz realm. Rolling Stone magazine consistently lists it among the top albums of all time. "Of his many musical creations, Coltrane looked upon A Love Supreme in a very special light", Kahn notes in the liner notes to A Love Supreme : Live In Seattle : "He called A Love Supreme a ‘humble offering to the Divine; no other composition or recording was similarly offered nor did he append his signature to any other work. A Love Supreme was as much an individual testament as it was a public statement – a sermon of universalist belief". \r\n \r\n A Love Supreme : Live In Seattle now expands the story of both a great musician and a timeless piece of music !\r\n """ -prixVente: "69.50" -delaiLivraison: App\Enum\TempsLivraisonEnum {#1912 …} -musicienOrchestre: "John Coltrane (tenor & soprano saxophone), Pharoah Sanders tenor saxophone), McCoy Tyner (piano), Jimmy Garrison (double bass), Donald Garrett (clarinet, double bass), Elvin Jones (drums)" -sonMusic: App\Enum\SonMusicEnum {#1167 …} -grammageMusic: App\Enum\GrammageMusicEnum {#1171 …} -rpmMusic: App\Enum\RPMMusicEnum {#1173 …} -lpsMusic: 2 -setBoxMusic: false -limitedEdition: true -preCommande: false -selectionAAD: false -extraitYoutube: "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmDbJ8TrQe8" -referenceProduit: "Impulse Records 9101" -titreMorceau: [ [ "nom" => "1. In the opening 'suite' titled "Solarization" (11 minutes long) he already shows his broad and certainly refined stylistic spectrum. For many jazz fans and cognoscenti, singer Mark Murphy was vastly underrated; they are right, as his prolific six-decade-long artistic career attests: during that career Murphy exhibited an inventive stylistic range that covered blues to bebop on through to modern jazz. His 1967 MPS recording lands in the middle of his "European decade", and it is one of the most beautiful, striking documents of his skills. "Midnight Mood" is characterized by the sophisticated dialogue between voice and eight musicians from the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland-Big band, but it begins a cappella : Murphy welcomes us with Duke Ellington’s "Jump For Joy" as he walks the vocal tightrope without a net, at the sametime offering us a taste of his unorthodox scat singing. With "I Don’t Want Nothin’" the ensemble offers us a swinging, bluesy, mischievous miniature, while Murphy's voice on "Why And How" shifts towards a noticeably darker tinge, surrounded by short penetrating solo interludes from the band. "Alone Together" reveals a masterpiece of phrasing over syncopated piano play; "You Fascinate Me So" emphasizes Murphy's romantic ardor. "Hopeless" unfolds with overwhelming intensity à la Sinatra, and "Sconsolato" is served with a casual Hispanic flair. A few weeks later the song would receive a Grammy nomination for Record of the Year.
