Among Classic Records' highlight accomplishments before the label sold in 2010 to Acoustic Sounds was unlocking the audio majesty of the Everest 35 mm magnetic film recordings on a groundbreaking reissue series. Now, return with us, as Classic Records by Analogue Productions returns this vintage audiophile collection to its rightful glory.\r\n
      \r\n
Everest LPs through the early 1960s were recorded on 3 channel 35 mm magnetic film recording equipment. 35 mm magnetic film yielded greater fidelity and less noise than standard 1/4" recording tape. The Westrex Corporation built special equipment to Everest's specifications to accomplish these advantages.\r\n
      \r\n
Fast forward to today: Classic Records by Analogue Productions is resurrecting this collection through an initial 10-title reissue series. Bernie Grundman cut the Classic Records reissues at both 33 and 45 RPM the 45 RPM versions have never been reissued !\r\n
      \r\n
Quality Record Pressings 200 gram flat profile LPs. These records are pressed with a flat-edge, no groove-guard flat profile, like the originals. The flat edge refers to the absence of a raised, beaded lip on the outer edge of the record, providing a flat playing surface - and no incline on your turntable.\r\n
      \r\n
Quality Record Pressings' quality is legendary and these flat profile 200 gram platters will look and sound exceptional !\r\n
      \r\n
Each 2 LP set comes with a Stoughton Printing tip-on original jacket and an Everest Records branded jacket showing photos of each reissue title. The two LPs are packaged in a protective clear sleeve.\r\n
      \r\n
Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra derives its name from the approach taken in treating instrument groups within the orchestra in a ‘concertante' or soloist manner throughout the piece. This virtuoso treatment, for example, is notable in the fugato section of the first movement where the brass are highlighted as well as in the second movement where pairs of instruments appear consecutively creating a brilliant passage. Stokowski's interpretation of this popular Bartok composition was recorded at the Houston Civic Center by Bert Whyte and team and originally released in March of 1961.

Béla Bartók : Concertos for Piano and Orchestra Nos. 2 and 3 - Géza Anda and the Radio Symphonie Orchester Berlin conducted by Ferenc Fricsay.\r\n

Bartók wanted his Second Piano Concerto to be understood as a contrast to his harsh and — for the orchestra — extremely difficult First Piano Concerto. But notwithstanding its more easily understandable theme, this work too was composed using strict classical sonata form. With a bright atmosphere, fired on by the sound of trumpets, the theme of the first movement forges ahead and sets the course for the whole work.\r\n
      \r\n
Lively exuberance and a committed interplay between the soloist and orchestra result in a work that is wholly positive throughout and which remains full of energy yet bell-like and accessible right up to the final movement.?Bartok composed his third and final piano concerto in the year of his death - 1945. However, the work in no way possesses a mood of demise but breathes a worldly-wise, cheerful, and mellowed atmosphere. Delightfully audible melodies, with a chorale-like grandeur in the middle movement, are woven into a rhythmically lively but well-rounded and flowing movement structure.\r\n

Béla Bartók : Concerto for Piano and Orchestra N° 1, Rhapsody for Piano and Orchestra, Op. 1 - Géza Anda and the Radio Symphonie Orchester Berlin conducted by Ferenc Fricsay.\r\n
      \r\n
Between Bartók's Rhapsody for Piano and his First Piano Concerto lie 22 years of development, a struggle to find subject matter, form and his own musical language. While the Rhapsody from 1904 is dominated by a late-Romantic tone, which delights in a free, craggy and capricious feast of affable harmonies, the Piano Concerto reflects contemplation and a delving into the formal strictness of the classical three-movement concerto form. Rather less concerto-like and unconventional is, however, the use of the piano as a percussion instrument, which after just a few bars on the winds, hammers out an unrelenting staccato against the harsh and dissonant orchestra.\r\n
      \r\n
In the slow movement too the piano is predominantly employed as a percussion instrument that, like the pendulum of a clock, rhythmically bulldozes on against the cheerless, bleak winds. Wild emotion predominates in the Finale. Stormy, insistent figures in the piano are answered by the orchestra with animated blows, but the quick flashes of melodies cannot establish themselves and are slashed to pieces as if caught in a storm.\r\n
      \r\n
This uncompromising severity presents an enormous challenge that is mastered with aplomb by Géza Anda and the RSO Berlin under Ferenc Fricsay. Bartók's musical language is milder and more accessible in his Second and Third Piano Concertos, which are now available in a new pressing from Speakers Corner Records.\r\n

    -description: """
Bartók’s Second Violin Concerto combines a potent mixture of traditional concerto writing, compositional history and biographical upheavals. It was one of the last works he wrote before emigrating to the USA, and its classical three-movement form unites a mature feeling for form, sparkling musicality and exceptional violinistic sophistication.\r\n
      \r\n
Bartók employs the inexhaustible sources of tonal writing with superb mastery to produce his own distinctive tonal language. In his dissonantly sharpened, expressive, even audacious music one can recognise peasant dance, cantilena, variation movement, rondo form, and twelve-tone themes, which however remain tonal.\r\n
      \r\n
During his career spanning 60 years Isaac Stern recorded this major contemporary work several times and demonstrates once again his superb mastery of his instrument in this particular recording. With bravura he conjures up eruptive snatches of melody out of the rhapsodic depths, allows the slow movement to glow with pastoral sentiment, and tears through the vast variations finale with a perfect command of the score, his instrument and his creative prowess.\r\n
      \r\n
