Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Stitt & Sonny Rollins' Sonny Side Up Reissued for the Verve Vault Series. Newly Mastered from the Original Analog Tapes by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound and Pressed at Optimal in Germany.\r\n
      \r\n
Sonny Side Up, released in 1959 on Verve Records, is the masterful studio collaboration between trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie and tenor saxophonists Sonny Rollins and Sonny Stitt. Recorded in December 1957 with producer Norman Granz, the album brings together three of modern jazz’s most distinctive musicians in a rare frontline configuration. Gillespie, already a pivotal architect of bebop, trades choruses with two tenor titans of contrasting approach: Rollins, with his thematic development and rhythmic elasticity, and Stitt, with his rapid-fire bebop fluency.\r\n
      \r\n
It’s rumored that Gillespie playfully pitted Rollins and Stitt against each other ahead of the session which resulted in the bar being raised and the creation of an iconic album. Make no mistake, though, the two trade blows throughout the set leaving no doubt that both are heavyweight champions.\r\n
      \r\n
The Verve Vault Series is an audiophile vinyl reissue series highlighting iconic jazz albums as well as overlooked gems from Verve’s vast catalog. The series presents definitive, all-analog 180 gram vinyl pressings newly-mastered from the original analog master tapes by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound and pressed at Optimal in Germany.

Dire Straits Expand Musical Framework and Come Into Own on Making Movies: Co-Produced by Jimmy Iovine, Thematic Album Soars With Personal Songwriting and Epic Arrangements. \r\n
      \r\n
Cinematic Landscapes and Intricate Passages Sound Sublime : Mobile Fidelity 45 RPM (2 LP) Pressing of Making Movies Mastered from Original Master Tapes, Features Audiophile Dynamics.\r\n
      \r\n
Bruce Springsteen Pianist Roy Bittan, Mark Knopfler's Guitar Playing, and Passionate Performances Turn Making Movies Into a Classic : Includes "Romeo and Juliet", "Tunnel of Love", "Solid Rock".\r\n
      \r\n
Making Movies marks a magnificent turning point in Dire Straits' career. Considered by many fans to be the group's most complete album, the 1980 set witnesses leader Mark Knopfler greatly expanding his songwriting palette and setting his storytelling amidst more complex, involving arrangements. Dire Straits also benefits from crucial contributions from Bruce Springsteen pianist Roy Bittan and the departure of rhythm guitarist David Knopfler. The songs spark with a mélange of poetry, passion, and cohesion that engages the senses and begs to be experienced again and again.\r\n
      \r\n
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's 180 gram 45 RPM (2 LP) set of Making Movies breathes with reference-caliber airiness, spaciousness, dynamics, and separation. Produced by Jimmy Iovine and Knopfler, the record which contains many Springsteen-esque elements – features the cleanliness and clarity that have long been Dire Straits trademarks. The extra-wide 45 RPM grooves on this edition provide previously unattainable detail, information, and soundstaging. This is what audiophile recordings are all about.\r\n
      \r\n
You know you're in the presence of sonic greatness as soon as the first few seconds of the opening "Tunnel of Love" pass, as the introductory passage built on organ and piano new additions to Dire Straits' palette intertwine with the unmistakable coil-spring twang of Knopfler's guitar. The three-dimensional, full-bodied presentation of the latter instrument on this Mobile Fidelity LP is alone worth the price of admission. Crisp, rich, and balanced, the analog sound brings Knopfler's Fender Vibrolux and Music Man HD 130 amplifiers into your room. The romanticism of Bittan's piano, precision timekeeping of drummer Pick Withers, and steady roll of bassist John Illsley come across with similar potency, scale, and verve.\r\n
      \r\n
Always more about the whole than the sum of their individual parts, Dire Straits demonstrate that while Knopfler is the lynchpin, this record is a true band effort. Bittan's role cannot be overstated. His melodicism poetically complements Knopfler's subtle staccato rhythms and more than makes up for the exit of David Knopfler. Expansive and cinematic, the aptly titled Making Movies puts a premium on interrelated subjects (love, relationships, heartbreak) and deep-seated emotions that play out in heartfelt lyrics, intense singing, and epic frameworks. Everything clicks.\r\n
      \r\n
The album's power isn't lost on Iovine, who later told Rolling Stone : "The right people were in the room together. It really was making a record in the pure sense of the term. The whole thing sounds like one song. But you what that is? That's the writing, the guy who wrote it. He wrote the album like that; he wanted to make the album like that".\r\n
      \r\n
Indeed, the first five tracks "Tunnel of Love", "Romeo and Juliet", "Skateaway", "Expresso Love", "Hand in Hand" comprise a mini-suite united by theme, harmony, and spirit. Every member of the newly configured Dire Straits has a say in the shaping of the material. There's not a note out of place. Iovine and Knopfler's standout production puts it over the top.

      - Dire Straits Dire Straits on Numbered Limited Edition 180 gram 45 RPM 2 LP from Mobile Fidelity !\r\n
      - SMOOTH, EFFORTLESS, RELAXED, TUNEFUL, AND DECEIVINGLY SIMPLE !\r\n
      - 1/4" / 15 IPS analog master to DSD 256 to analog console to lathe !\r\n
      \r\n
Dire Straits' Self-Titled 1978 Debut Distinguished by Jazz-Inflected Mix of Folk, Blues, Country, and Rock: Guitarist Mark Knopfler Displays Uncanny Precision, Intricacy, and Texture. \r\n
      \r\n
Breakout Dire Straits Album Includes "Sultans of Swing" and "Down to the Waterline" : Band's Shuffles, Boogies, and Ballads Spark With Crispness, Soulfulness, Coolness.\r\n
      \r\n
Dire Straits' arresting self-titled debut arrived in the midst of punk's reign but couldn't have been further removed from the era's slash-and-burn style. Recorded in West London in February 1978, the band's tasteful, jazz-inflected set embraces folk, blues, and pub rock while also tracing a direct line back to the beat-oriented sound of early rock n' roll. Country and roots accents further distinguish the British quartet's stripped-down music from any 1970s peers, as does the transparent production, which has remained revered among audiophiles the world over – and which has never been better than on this meticulous analog pressing.\r\n
      \r\n
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's 180 gram 45 RPM 2 LP version of Dire Straits features natural tonalities, superb balances, you-are-there imaging, deep-black backgrounds, and pristine clarity. Even if you've heard this album hundreds of times before, you've never experienced it with such lifelike sonics and premium richness. This numbered, limited-edition collector's set immerses you within the smoky, laidback atmospherics of every song. This is how all vinyl should sound.\r\n
      \r\n
Crucial to every arrangement, Mark Knopfler's winding guitar lines emerge with supreme transparency and multi-hued textural detail. His intricate playing comes across as if it's being transmitted via his 60s-era Fender Vibrolux amplifier placed right before you. The cleanliness, dimensions, and live feel are that good. His bandmates, too, benefit from the extra groove space afforded by this 45 RPM edition. Rhythms skate and swirl; percussive effects resonate with crispness and attack; the leading edges of notes naturally decay.\r\n
      \r\n
Dire Straits' strong, well-edited batch of original material further enhances the overall enjoyment and makes the record one whose pleasures go far beyond the organic sonics. Just as Knopfler's narratives pour forth with poetic and surrealist texts, the musical settings – an intoxicating combination of easygoing shuffles, back-hall boogies, and pop-honed ballads – mirror the old-fashioned soulfulness inherent in the classic recordings of the late 50s and early 60s. The lyrics are equally captivating.\r\n
      \r\n
Drawing from his time as a youth in Newcastle, Leeds, and London, Knopfler invests tunes with an autobiographical slant and emotional connectivity that become obvious the moment he opens his mouth to sing. "Down to the Waterline", "Wild West End", and "Lions" all feature colloquial touches that add to their reach. By extension, "In the Gallery" functions as a tribute to Leeds sculptor Harry Phillips (father of future Knoplfer collaborator, Steve Phillips) while the record's breakout smash, "Sultans of Swing", pays homage to struggling bar bands.\r\n
      \r\n
Through it all, Dire Straits performs with a subtle cool and clever poise that no band ever matched. Just how good is the chemistry ? Bob Dylan heard the quartet and invited Knopfler and drummer Pick Withers to play on Slow Train Coming. But even Dylan himself didn't hear Dire Straits sound this magnetic back in its original heyday. Now, everyone can.

      \r\n
Love Over Gold is all about contrast, tension, and crafty composition. Dire Straits' fourth album finds the band continuing to evolve by welcoming increasingly bold arrangements and exploring moody variations. Parts edgy and sharp, and part seductive and relaxed, the five lengthy songs on Love Over Gold sprawl out like a long, winding road cutting through a pastoral landscape. The addition of a new rhythm guitarist, Hal Lindes, encourages deeper atmospheric interplay while the presence of engineer Neil Dorfsman his first appearance in what would be a long string of collaborations with Mark Knopfler ensures stunning sonic properties that now come to life like never before.\r\n
      \r\n
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's 180 gram 45 RPM 2 LP version of Love Over Gold teems with superb balances, front-to-back soundstages, and crystalline purity. The dead-quiet surfaces and extra-wide grooves bring forward previously obscured details, extra information, and mastering-studio-quality transients. The distinctive textures of a host of instruments – marimbas, acoustic and electric guitars, vibes, synthesizers further enhance the ambitiousness of the 1982 album.\r\n
      \r\n
On this audiophile pressing, everything Knopfler does seemingly turn to gold. Gearheads will hear the unique characteristics afforded by his use of a Mesa Boogie Mark II guitar amplifier (soon again employed on Brothers in Arms) and carefully chosen selection of Schecter Stratocasters, 1937 National steel guitar, and Ovation six- and twelve-string models. Reference-level separation and lifelike imaging place Knopfler and company in your room, while tube-like warmth, spaciousness, and airiness causes the music to breathe anew. This LP will be in your rotation for months.\r\n
      \r\n
It doesn't take long to realize Love Over Gold is like no other Dire Straits album and a staunch proclamation of independence from a band that continued to take longer creative strides with each successive project. Fearlessly extending over metaphoric hills, valleys, and plains for nearly 14 and-a-half minutes, the opening "Telegraph Road" is a guitar hero's dream and exhilarating showcase for Lindes' give-and-take capabilities. In tandem with keyboardist Alan Clark, Lindes provides the ideal foil for not only Knopfler but the long-time rhythm section of bassist John Illsley and drummer Pick Withers.\r\n
      \r\n
Taking its time to arrive at destinations, the quintet paints evocative musical and lyrical portraits steeped in patience, drama, and, often times, sadness. Desolate emotions color the sweeping "Telegraph Road" and barren "Private Investigations", which finds Knopfler in the role of a tired private eye contemplating the emptiness and scars of his profession. Vocally, the Dire Straits leader remains in top form throughout, his whiskey-coated rasp conveying romantic ache, ongoing frustration, and what Rolling Stone beautifully deemed "wracking schizophrenia between the heart and the heartless, the loving and the pain".\r\n
      \r\n
Called Dire Straits' prog-rock statement, Love Over Gold is a classic that defies labeling and avoids aging. \r\n
      \r\n
"Listening to these classic albums in an entirely new way is an experience that I won't forget too soon. For its 125th birthday, Deutsche Grammophon is releasing legendary recordings with highest sound standards: The new audiophile vinyl series The Original Source presents outstanding recordings from the 1970s in a whole new sound quality. For this, the renowned Emil Berliner Studios have remastered and edited the original four-track tapes in 100 % analog quality (AAA) using technologies developed specifically to produce the series. The sonic differences to the original releases are considerable: greater clarity, more subtleties and improvements in frequency response, while at the same time less background noise, distortion and compression allow for an audiophile listening experience like never before.\r\n
      \r\n
Released on 180 gram vinyl records and in a deluxe gatefold edition with original covers and lyrics, the copies of this series are limited and numbered. They are accompanied by additional photos and facsimiles of the recording logs and tape boxes, plus an article, which explains the exact technical background.\r\n
      \r\n
The collaboration between the eccentric pianist Friedrich Gulda, star conductor Claudio Abbado and the Vienna Philharmonic is legendary. Their recording of Mozart's Piano Concertos N° 25 and 27 are among the best interpretations of these works. "There the sky comes very close" (FonoForum)\r\n

      The Original Source Series :\r\n
      \r\n
The Original Source is one of several new initiatives introduced by Deutsche Grammophon in 2023 as part of its 125th-anniversary celebrations. The Original Source draws on the technical innovation that has been part of the label's identity ever since it was founded in 1898 by Emil Berliner, inventor of the gramophone.\r\n
      \r\n
"Deutsche Grammophon's distinctive nature was forged by iconic classical artists of the past, whose recordings are of timeless quality", notes Dr. Clemens Trautmann, President of Deutsche Grammophon. "Everything we do today is embedded in the wonderful 125 years of history we're celebrating this year and, in this new series, exceptional creative content goes hand in hand with the finest engineering techniques. We're delighted to present great music to our listeners in a unique audio format that will invite them to engage in a conscious listening experience".\r\n
      \r\n
Rainer Maillard, recording producer and managing director of Emil Berliner Studios, explains more about the process involved in creating The Original Source series :\r\n
      \r\n
"Sometimes many years have to pass before old treasures are rediscovered. For its 125th anniversary in 2023, DG will be reissuing a series of legendary recordings from the 1970s, cut for the first time directly from the 4 track ½-inch masters, rather than the stereo ¼-inch tape copies. The result will be the highest possible, audiophile quality, giving listeners the chance to enjoy this repertoire as never before.\r\n
      \r\n
"In order to better understand the background to this extraordinary series, it is worth looking at DG's technical developments in sound recording. It started recording for quadraphonic surround sound as early as 1970. The format was 4 track analogue tape, with left, right, front and rear channels. After the recording was finished, the 4-track tapes were edited in the studio at DG's site in Hannover. The various takes were cut with scissors and joined together again with sticky tape.\r\n
      \r\n
"Back then, however, there was no consumer format ready for quadraphonic playback, so DG was producing for the future. The label did release these recordings on regular vinyl LPs in stereo, of course, which meant the engineers had to create a stereo downmix of the 4-track master tape. For international distribution, DG made copies of this copy and sent them around the world for local manufacturing.\r\n
      \r\n
"A tape copy can never sound as good as the original master tape, so the idea was born to make a product of the highest quality by using the original 4-track masters instead of the 2-track copies for lacquer cutting. They sound sensational, thanks to the expert team involved back in the day, and the analogue recording technology they were using.\r\n
      \r\n
"For the new releases, two technical aspects have to be taken into account. Firstly, 4-track tape is twice as wide as the usual 2-track tape, therefore we need a special tape machine. This has to be able to deliver a so-called preview signal, which allows the disc-cutting lathe to etch a perfect groove on the disc. Our tape machine had to be modified for this purpose and is probably the only one of its kind in the world right now. Secondly, we need to mix the front and rear channels down to stereo in real time. A completely new, custom-built mixing desk was required for this project. Emil Berliner Studios have designed a passive mixer, which renders the highest quality without introducing any additional noise to the signal.\r\n
      \r\n
"The Original Source Series means : no tape copies used, no unnecessary devices in the signal path and, of course, no digital sound processing. This is the shortest possible way from the original master to the cutter head.\r\n
      \r\n
"Compared to the original releases, the advantages in sound for the vinyl reissues are outstanding: greater clarity, more details and a better frequency response; less noise, less distortion, less compression… Enjoy !"

When Jascha Heifetz stepped into the studio with Charles Munch and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the result was nothing less than legendary. Beethoven's Violin Concerto, a work of noble lyricism and timeless beauty, found in Heifetz a soloist of supreme technical command and aristocratic poise. His playing radiates both precision and passion, every phrase polished to brilliance yet never losing its expressive depth.\r\n
      \r\n
Charles Munch, the great French maestro, was a natural partner-bringing clarity, warmth, and a rhythmic lift that perfectly complements Heifetz's elegance. The Boston Symphony, in its Living Stereo prime, provides a luminous orchestral backdrop, captured with the spacious, natural sound that made RCA recordings of the era so prized.\r\n
      \r\n
What makes this album especially notable is the sheer electricity of the collaboration: the world's most celebrated violinist at the height of his powers, paired with a conductor and orchestra who elevate the music to exhilarating heights. For classical music fans, it offers both an ideal introduction to Beethoven's concerto and a reference performance that seasoned collectors return to again and again.\r\n
      \r\n
Mastered by Bernie Grundman from the original 2-track master tape, cut at 45 RPM and plated and pressed at Quality Record Pressings makers of the world's finest-sounding vinyl LPs, no other editions match these for the quietest 180 gram platters available. Each reissue in the RCA Living Stereo 45 RPM Series also includes a special 2 panel insert.

      \r\n

Shirley Horn "Great Women Of Song : Shirley Horn" \r\n
      \r\n
Shirley Horn's sensitive vocals and sublime yet powerful piano playing attracted the attention of fellow musicians, including early supporter Miles Davis, and numerous in-the-know fans during her decades-long career. This collection of recordings, made for Verve Records during her late-career resurgence, includes performances with small groups and a string orchestra.

"I heard the music in an entirely new way... the recording is so good, and the Analogue Productions mastering brings such new life to this LP... Mastered by Doug Sax, this explodes off your turntable". Recording = 10/10, Music = 9.5/10 - Dennis D. Davis, Hi-Fi +, Issue 89 \r\n

"it is simply hard to believe how good this LP sounds, the backgrounds are as quiet as any of the famous UHQR pressings. Lynne's voice simply comes out of silence and a real space. It is rich, detailed, and most of all, unbelievably alive sounding. This recording is so good that I swear it sounds like she sings better than she did on the original... This is an LP that every vinyl lover must have in their collection!" - Jack Roberts, Dagogo\r\n
      \r\n
"the first truly all-analog version... a tad warmer tonally, goes even deeper in the lower bass, and has an overall ease to the presentation that makes it the best version yet of this record. In fact, the super-silent 180 gram vinyl surfaces particularly benefit an ultra-dynamic recording such as this, so that previously unheard details such as the lightest cymbal flourishes can now be heard. While it isn't fully clear whether it was the mastering - or the plating and pressing that was responsible for the improvement, there's no doubt that there is one...Highly Recommended". - My Vinyl Review, March 18, 2012.\r\n
      \r\n
"all I can say is THIS IS INCREDIBLE !!! The sonics are spectacular and the pressing quality is as good as has ever been pressed in my opinion. The backgrounds are dead, black, silent the way Japanese pressings used to come on JVC 'Supervinyl!' and believe me it doesn't get any better than that, though this may even be richer, darker and blacker." Music = 9/11, Sound = 11/11 - Michael Fremer, MusicAngle.com\r\n
      \r\n
"Despite the album's AAA pedigree, and Lynne's stating her preference for analog and for vinyl which created a press buzz of its own, particularly after she memorably made the case for the format by saying 'You can't roll a joint on an iPod' the original vinyl release was a fiasco... Enter Chad Kassem's Analogue Productions. Kassem knew the history and he knew how much better Just A Little Lovin' could sound. So he licensed the title for vinyl and SACD, acquired the master tapes and had them shipped to Doug Sax at The Mastering Lab. The songs arrived on individual reels that had to be spooled off and spliced together to create each side's running master". - Andre Marc, MusicAngle.com\r\n

One of the most incredible sounding records we've ever heard. It's exactly what audiophiles dream about. A mixture of great music, great performances and a great recording all with air to breathe. Show-stopping sound !\r\n
      \r\n
"There's nothing we've offered that I'm more excited about and that I'm more confident will just blow people away". - Chad Kassem, Acoustic Sounds, Inc. CEO\r\n
      \r\n
Released originally by Lost Highway Records in 2008, Just A Little Lovin' is Shelby Lynne's stirring, emphatic tribute to the late British singer Dusty Springfield. It is to date the highest charting album of Lynne's career, reaching N° 41 on the Billboard 200. The producer is veteran Phil Ramone the engineer for Springfield's original recording of "The Look Of Love".\r\n
      \r\n
Reissuing this masterpiece to our Analogue Productions standards was an enormous and expensive undertaking. Keep in mind that almost without exception, for every pop record recorded after 1992, even if it's recorded to analog tape like this one, the songs are stored individually. That means that there is never an actual complete album master compiled. So to cut an LP from tape, we had to have mastering engineer Doug Sax assemble an analog master in order so that he could then cut the record to LP, using his famed tube electronics. This involves a lot of extra cost and work. But, since this is such an incredible album, we went all the way. Also, we should mention that Shelby Lynne herself is reportedly a big fan of vinyl.\r\n
      \r\n
As for the quality of the record itself, the name says it all. This heavyweight platter from Quality Record Pressings is dead quiet and smooth. Plating was also done in-house at QRP by Gary Salstrom.\r\n
      \r\n
Right on the heels of our Analogue Productions reissue of Dusty Springfield's Dusty In Memphis, which was named Stereophile's Recording of the Month for February 2012, the timing couldn't be more perfect.\r\n
      \r\n
In addition to the Springfield tracks, Lynne also covers Tony Joe White's "Willie and Laura Mae Jones." In fact, given the style of music and sound quality, we'd recommend that anyone who likes this record also check out our reissue of Tony Joe White's Homemade Ice Cream (https://store.acousticsounds.com/d/75086/Tony_Joe_White-Homemade_Ice_Cream-200_Gram_Vinyl_Record) and our reissue of Dusty Springfield's Dusty In Memphis (https://store.acousticsounds.com/d/73767/Dusty_Springfield-Dusty_In_Memphis-45_RPM_Vinyl_Record). And if you like either of those two records, we think you're gonna like this one.\r\n
      \r\n
PopMatters' review of Just A Little Lovin' wrote "Lynne has crafted a disc that while not exactly transcendent still manages to go to emotional places that remain unattainable to your run-of-the-mill pop vocalists". Some of Dusty's biggest hits are covered here including "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me", "I Only Want To Be With You", and "How Can I Be Sure".\r\n
      \r\n

This album came about through a fortuitous convergence of circumstances. Shelly Manne & His Men were appearing at New York's Village Vanguard, sharing the bill with the Bill Evans Trio. Getting Riverside's permission to let the pianist participate, Creed Taylor set up a session at Rudy Van Gelder's studio with Evans and Manne sharing top billing. Manne's bass player, Monty Budwig, made up the trio. This was a busman's holiday for Evans, who was freed from the musical parameters he had set for his then-current trio. The result is that his playing seemed lighter, freer, and more relaxed than it had for a while. The album kicks off with a jaunty version of Irving Berlin's "The Washington Twist" from the unsuccessful Mr. President with Budwig sharing the honors with Evans as much as Manne. Manne spends most of his time driving Evans into more diminished and sharper playing than was usually Evans' wont. Another relatively unfamiliar Berlin work, "Let's Go Back to the Waltz", gives full reign to Evans' lyricism. The longest tune on the set is an audacious, almost lampooned version of "With a Song in My Heart" with light chordal phrasing that pretty much characterized much of the tone coming from this session.\r\n
