For Davis, the live album represents the final time on record he'd perform standards rather than original compositions. It also stands as one of the last documents made by the same band that created Seven Steps to Heaven. As such, the work teems with bebop melodicism yet steers clear of Davis' oft-controversial avant-garde leanings. Most significantly, however, the set captures the ballads performed at a benefit concert from New York's then-new Philharmonic Hall just months after President Kennedy's assassination. Tapping into a seemingly divine inspiration, Davis never sounded so elegant or poetic.\r\n \r\n Presented in reference-standard fidelity, the record boasts balances, tonalities, and airiness that duplicate the experience of witnessing live jazz in an acoustically ideal hall. The images of each individual instrument, the decay of the notes, the inner reaches of the piano, and symmetry of the horns – all are rendered with palpable detail. \r\n \r\n Staged as a benefit to support voter registration in the South, the February concert came amidst the height of the Civil Rights movement, a cause dear to Davis' heart. Yet unforeseen circumstances raised the stakes. Having professed his admiration for Kennedy years prior, Davis appears to approach the compositions on My Funny Valentine (and, in particular, the title track) as homage to the fallen leader, a collective soliloquy comprised of pieces shot through with deeply emotional passages, spontaneous brilliance, sensitive beauty, and sublime poignancy. Elegiac moods permeate the performances; Davis and his Harmon mute paint with intricate brushstrokes.\r\n \r\n Pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Tony Williams are their leader's equal, and would continue with Davis until later in the decade, helping form what's now known as the "second great quintet". But the secret weapon on both My Funny Valentine and its sister Four & More arrives in the form of tenor saxophonist George Coleman, whom jazz experts Brian Morton and Richard Cook deem "one of the unsung heroes of modern jazz." His lines are subtle and sophisticated, straight ahead but capable of unanticipated direction, and here, he comes into his own. Pre Bird and the Columbia material share some common elements, most obviously the large ensemble. Mingus devoted these sessions to his pre-1940s material and other works from the prebop era, and two of the best-played works are from Ellington's pen.\r\n \r\n Both "Take the 'A' Train" and "Do Nothin' Till You hear from Me" are taken at a distinctly Mingus pace, with Ellington's polyphony heightened and the tension increased considerably by the more-pouncing band here. "Prayer for Passive Resistance" shows the same pounce, as does "Mingus Fingus N°. 2", and both sound looser and more free-associative in the soloing than the Columbia work. Two additional highlights are "Weird Nightmare" and the third-stream-colored "Half-Mast Inhibition" (conducted by Gunther Schuller), which keens and squirrels about just off-center from either tonality or atonality. As for the band, it's got all the usual suspects and more: Eric Dolphy and Booker Ervin are the reed section's towering talents, and as always, Dannie Richmond keeps the drummed time. For Mingus fans, this is a treasure.\r\n \r\n Seeking to offer definitive audiophile grade versions of some of the most historic and best jazz records ever recorded, Verve Label Group and Universal Music Enterprises' audiophile Acoustic Sounds vinyl reissue series utilizes the skills of top mastering engineers and the unsurpassed production craft of Quality Record Pressings. All titles are mastered from the original analog tapes, pressed on 180 gram vinyl and packaged by Stoughton Printing Co. in high-quality gatefold sleeves with tip-on jackets. The releases are supervised by Chad Kassem, CEO of Acoustic Sounds, the world's largest source for audiophile recordings.\r\n \r\n """ -prixVente: "60.00" -delaiLivraison: App\Enum\TempsLivraisonEnum {#1855 …} -musicienOrchestre: "Charles Mingus (bass), Eric Dolphy (alto saxophone), Charles McCracken (cello), Paul Bley (piano), Bill Barron (tenor saxophone), Charles Greenlee (trombone), Clark Terry (trumpet), Don Butterfield (tuba), Robert DiDomenica (flute)…" -sonMusic: App\Enum\SonMusicEnum {#1167 …} -grammageMusic: App\Enum\GrammageMusicEnum {#1171 …} -rpmMusic: App\Enum\RPMMusicEnum {#1173 …} -lpsMusic: 1 -setBoxMusic: false -limitedEdition: true -preCommande: false -selectionAAD: false -extraitYoutube: "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXxePStP0T0" -referenceProduit: "Acoustic Sounds Series 6801" -titreMorceau: [ [ "nom" => "1. On this exceptional album, he successfully combines his unpredictable and spontaneous guitar playing style with a predominantly analogue production. World Sinfonia is defined by introspection and thoughtful writing, enhanced by the unique artistic connection between Di Meola and Argentinian bandoneon player Dino Saluzzi. Ready to redefine definitive again.\r\n \r\n Friday Night In San Francisco is a 1981 live album by Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia. It was described by jazz author and critic Walter Kolosky as “a musical event that could be compared to the Benny Goodman Band’s performance at Carnegie Hall in 1938…[it] may be considered the most influential of all live acoustic guitar albums. All the tracks except Guardian Angel were recorded live at The Warfield Theatre on December 5, 1980 in San Francisco.\r\n This debut recording on Columbia Records became a landmark recording that surpassed the two million mark in sales. The three virtuosos in the Trio toured together from 1980 through 1983.\r\n \r\n Paco de Lucia was a Spanish flamenco guitarist, composer and producer. A leading proponent of the New Flamenco style, he helped legitimize flamenco among the establishment in Spain, and was one of the first flamenco guitarists to have successfully crossed over into other genres of music such as classical and jazz. De Lucia was noted for his fast and fluent finger style runs. His collaborations with guitarists John McLaughlin and Al Di Meola saw him gain wider popularity outside his native Spain.\r\n \r\n Al Di Meola is an acclaimed jazz fusion and Latin jazz guitarist, composer, and record producer. With a musical career that has spanned more than three decades, he has become respected as one of the most influential guitarists in jazz to date. Albums such as Friday Night In San Francisco have earned him both artistic and commercial success with a solid fan base throughout the world. A prolific composer and prodigious six-string talent, Di Meola has amassed over 20 albums as a leader while collaborating on a dozen or so others.\r\n \r\n John McLaughlin is an English guitarist, bandleader and composer. His music includes many genres of jazz and rock, which he coupled with an interest in Indian classical music to become one of the pioneering figures in fusion. In 2010, guitarist Jeff Beck called him “the best guitarist alive”. In 2003, McLaughlin was ranked 49th in Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”. After contributing to several key British groups of the early sixties and making his first solo record, he moved to the US where he played with Tony Williams’ group Lifetime and then with Miles Davis on his landmark electric-jazz fusion albums: In A Silent Way, Bitches Brew, A Tribute To Jack Johnson and On The Corner.\r\n \r\n “Loose and spontaneous, this (mainly) live album is a meeting of three of the greatest guitarists in the world for an acoustic summit the likes of which the guitar-playing community rarely sees. Broken up into three duo and two trio performances, Friday Night in San Francisco catches all three players at the peaks of their quite formidable powers”. – www.allmusic.com\r\n Features:\r\n \r\n • Mastered by Bernie Grundman from the Original Analog Master Tapes !\r\n • Numbered Limited Edition 100 % Analog 180 gram Vinyl LP !\r\n • Limited To Only 3000 Numbered Copies !\r\n • Plated and pressed at RTI, supervised by Rick Hashimoto\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n """ -prixVente: "99.50" -delaiLivraison: App\Enum\TempsLivraisonEnum {#1918 …} -musicienOrchestre: "Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin, Paco de Lucía (guitar)" -sonMusic: App\Enum\SonMusicEnum {#1167 …} -grammageMusic: App\Enum\GrammageMusicEnum {#1171 …} -rpmMusic: App\Enum\RPMMusicEnum {#1174 …} -lpsMusic: 2 -setBoxMusic: false -limitedEdition: true -preCommande: false -selectionAAD: false -extraitYoutube: "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGbLEco2Ezc" -referenceProduit: "Impex Records 6031-45" -titreMorceau: [ [ "nom" => "1.
