      - Jackie McLean "Tippin' The Scales" 180 gram LP !\r\n
      - Mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from the original master tape !\r\n
      - Plated and pressed at RTI !\r\n
      \r\n
Jackie McLean's 1960s Blue Note output is a fascinating body of work, especially viewed with the benefit of hindsight. In between recording two venturous modernist sessions (Let Freedom Ring and One Step Beyond) that would set the tone for the alto saxophonist's future explorations came the seemingly more conventional and relaxed quartet date Tippin' The Scales. Recorded in September 1962 but not released until 1979, the date featured McLean with Sonny Clark on piano, Butch Warren on bass, and Art Taylor on drums delivering a swinging hard bop set that presented two originals by McLean "Tippin' the Scales" and "Rainy Blues" along with three by Clark "Nursery Blues", "Nicely", and "Two For One", as well as a tender version of Vernon Duke's "Cabin in the Sky".\r\n
      \r\n
The Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series was born out of Blue Note President Don Was' admiration for the exceptional audiophile Blue Note LP reissues presented by Music Matters. Was brought Joe Harley, a.k.a. the "Tone Poet", on board to curate and supervise a series of reissues from the Blue Note family of labels.\r\n
      \r\n
Extreme attention to detail has been paid to getting these right in every conceivable way, from the jacket graphics and printing quality to superior LP mastering (direct from the master tapes) by Kevin Gray to superb 180 gram audiophile LP pressings by Record Technology Inc. Every aspect of these Tone Poet releases is done to the highest possible standard. It means that you will never find a superior version. This is IT.\r\n

This stereo Tone Poet Vinyl Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray (Cohearent Audio) from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180 gram vinyl at Record Technology Inc. (RTI), and packaged in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.

      \r\n
Jackie McLean's music weaved in and out of the avant-garde throughout the 1960s with the brilliant 1963 inside-out dates One Step Beyond and Destination... Out! eventually leading to full-throated free jazz of the 1967 dates New and Old Gospel (featuring Ornette Coleman on trumpet) and ‘Bout Soul.\r\n
      \r\n
Demon's Dance, which was recorded in December 1967, found the alto saxophonist maintaining a decidedly post-bop edge with a spirited quintet comprised of trumpeter Woody Shaw, pianist LaMont Johnson, bassist Scott Holt, and drummer Jack DeJohnette. The six-song set presented a pair of tunes each by McLean, Shaw, and composer Cal Massey with highlights including McLean's churning title track, Shaw's tuneful bossa "Sweet Love of Mine," and Massey's brightly swinging "Message from Trane" in tribute to the great John Coltrane who had passed away early that year. But the album's most striking feature may be the unforgettable cover artwork by Mati Klarwein whose work also graced the cover of Miles Davis' Bitches Brew.

Alto saxophonist Jackie McLean's 1960s output ran the gamut from hard bop to the avant-garde with his 1964 post-bop dates It's Time! and Action splitting the difference. Trumpeter Charles Tolliver had appeared alongside McLean in the horn frontline on It's Time! and returned once again for Action the next month, with McLean opting for Bobby Hutcherson's vibraphone in place of piano, as well as Cecil McBee on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums. The albums leaps out of the gate with McLean's searing title track followed by two pensive Tolliver originals : "Plight" and "Wrong Handle". On a highly original version of the standard "I Hear a Rhapsody" the melody is answered by discordant interjections from the horns before the album comes to a close with McLean's grooving minor key piece "Hootnan."

      \r\n
Jackie McLean's evocative 1965 album Jacknife captured the alto saxophonist in an envelope-pushing post-bop mode. The session featured two trumpeters-Lee Morgan and Charles Tolliver-who are heard together to great effect on Morgan's groovy "Soft Blue", but otherwise take turns in the spotlight. McLean also assembled a deeply engaged rhythm section for the date featuring pianist Larry Willis, bassist Larry Ridley, and drummer Jack DeJohnette.\r\n
      \r\n
McLean's fiery sound ignites a wide range of material from the expansive modal explorations of Tolliver's "On The Nile" to the churning rhythms of DeJohnette's "Climax" to McLean's own "Blue Fable", which delivers a loping melody over shifting feels before settling into a deep pocketed swing for emphatic solos by McLean and Morgan.\r\n

The Blue Note Tone Poet Series was born out of Blue Note President Don Was' admiration for the exceptional audiophile Blue Note LP reissues presented by Music Matters. Was brought Joe Harley (from Music Matters), a.k.a. the "Tone Poet", on board to curate and supervise a series of reissues from the Blue Note family of labels.\r\n
      \r\n
Recorded in May 1963, Silver's Serenade was the last in a fantastic run of albums that pianist Horace Silver would make with the most celebrated line-up of his Quintet featuring Blue Mitchell on trumpet, Junior Cook on tenor saxophone, Gene Taylor on bass, and Roy Brooks on drums. The core of the band had been together since 1959 and recorded hard bop classics such as Finger Poppin' and Blowin' the Blues Away, with Brooks joining in 1960 on Horace-Scope.\r\n
      \r\n
The program on Silver's Serenade consists of five Silver tunes that epitomize his exceptional compositional style: captivating melodies, sophisticated harmonies, and intricate rhythmic inventions with a soulful and unerring sense of swing at the core. From the relaxed groove of the opening title track to the hard-charging finale "Nineteen Bars" the Quintet delivers their swan song with style.

      - Horace Silver "Silver's Serenade" 180 gram LP !\r\n
      - Mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from the original master tape !\r\n
      - Plated and pressed at RTI !\r\n
      \r\n

Horace Silver's 1962 tour of Japan had a profound impact on the pianist who returned to the U.S. and dedicated his subsequent album The Tokyo Blues to his fervent Japanese fans.\r\n
      \r\n
Along with his quintet featuring trumpeter Blue Mitchell, tenor saxophonist Junior Cook, bassist Gene Taylor, and drummer John Harris Jr., Silver delivered an inspired 5-song set including his alluring originals "The Tokyo Blues", "Too Much Sake", "Sayonara Blues", and "Ah! So", as well as Ronnell Bright's lovely ballad "Cherry Blossom".\r\n
      \r\n
Silver had noticed a love of Latin music among the Japanese jazz fans he met and in his compositions he sought to "combine the Japanese feeling in the melodies with the Latin feeling in the rhythms".\r\n
      \r\n
This stereo Tone Poet Vinyl Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray (Cohearent Audio) from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180 gram vinyl at Record Technology Inc. (RTI), and packaged in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.

      \r\n

The bluesy and soulful pianist Horace Parlan is perhaps best known for his work with Charles Mingus on the bassist's seminal 1959 albums Mingus Ah Um and Blues & Roots. That same year Parlan made his first Blue Note appearance on Lou Donaldson's album The Time Is Right and in early-1960 he began leading his own sessions for the label with a run of six quintessential hard bop dates recorded over a prolific 16 month period.\r\n
      \r\n
Following the trio albums Movin' & Groovin' and Us Three, Parlan expanded to a quintet for his classic Speakin' My Piece, and in 1961 capped off his hot streak with the quintet album Up & Down. The six-song set was anchored by Parlan's trusty trio with bassist George Tucker and drummer Al Harewood and featured the two new band members in guitarist and Blue Note stalwart Grant Green and brawny tenor saxophonist Booker Ervin. Opening with Ervin's catchy, hard-swinging number "The Book's Beat" the set's other highlights include Parlan's up-tempo title tune, Tucker's soulful blues-waltz "Fugee", Green's swaggering blues "The Other Part of Town", and the plaintive ballad "Lonely One" which was written by Babs Gonzales for Billie Holiday.

      \r\n
The Prisoner is the seventh Herbie Hancock album, his final on the Blue Note label, released and recorded in 1969. Dedicated to the memory of Martin Luther King, Jr., Hancock suggested in 1969 that he had been able to get closer to his real self with this album than on any other previous. Hancock praised flute player Hubert Laws on the album, suggesting that Laws was one of the finest flute players in classical or jazz music.\r\n
      \r\n
Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series : \r\n
"Tone Poet" Joe Harley-co-founder and co-producer of the acclaimed Music Matters audiophile vinyl series is the producer of this new series of all-analog, mastered from the original master-tape 180 gram audiophile vinyl reissues in deluxe gatefold packaging. Mastering was done by Kevin Gray (Cohearent Audio) and vinyl was manufactured at Record Technology Incorporated (RTI). The titles were handpicked by Harley and cover lesser-known Blue Note classics, modern era standouts, and albums from other labels under the Blue Note catalog.\r\n
      \r\n
Extreme attention to detail has been paid to getting these right in every conceivable way, from the jacket graphics and printing quality to superior LP mastering (direct from the master tapes) by Kevin Gray to superb 180 gram audiophile LP pressings by Record Technology Inc. Every aspect of these Blue Note / Tone Poet releases is done to the highest possible standard. It means that you will never find a superior version. This is IT.\r\n
      \r\n
The so-called Tone Poet (Joe Harley) is confident that his audiophile reissues will allow 21st-century listeners to hear what the musicians heard as the master tape was played back on the studio monitors in Rudy Van Gelder's studio 50 or 60 years ago. He believes that, in terms of quality, Blue Note albums have never sounded or looked better. "Every aspect of these Blue Note releases is done to the highest possible standard", he says. "It means that you will never find a superior version".

      - Mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio From Original Analog Tape !\r\n
      - Produced By Music Matters' Joe Harley !\r\n
      - Pressed at RTI !\r\n

      \r\n
Recorded in 1967 but not released until 1980 as part of the LT Series, Hank Mobley's Third Season was a typically high-caliber late-60s hard bop outing by the tenor saxophonist with a heavy focus on his own original compositions. Mobley had expanded his palette the year before on A Slice of the Top, an octet date featuring arrangements by Duke Pearson, but Third Season felt like a return to a looser, small group feel despite the fact that it still featured a 7 piece band.\r\n
      \r\n
Joining Mobley here are alto saxophonist James Spaulding, trumpeter Lee Morgan, guitarist Sonny Greenwich, pianist Cedar Walton, bassist Walter Booker, and drummer Billy Higgins. The six-song set includes Morgan's blues "The Steppin' Stone", but otherwise presents a diverse collection of Mobley's originals including the hard-charging opener "An Aperitif", laid-back swinger "Don't Cry, Just Sigh", breezy "Boss Bossa", gospel-tinged boogaloo "Give Me That Feelin'", and the intricate title track.
