Ritenour and the former Doobie Brothers vocalist transform the song into an adult contemporary / quiet storm ballad.\r\n \r\n Recorded on 180 gram heavy-weight vinyl to ensure quality sound, packaged in gatefold cover, and covered by premium protective vinyl outer sleeve.\r\n \r\n The 'Play 33 1/3 LP Series' is a 1st LP issue project of the masterpiece albums which have never been released on vinyl LP. The albums are released by Universal Music Korea and the heavyweight vinyl LP is pressed in Germany. Khiov designs the project, reforms the original artworks for the LP size and produces the sleeves precisely by handmade. You will have a chance to experience great analogue sounds and to enjoy splendid artworks through the series.\r\n \r\n "Creatively, Lee Ritenour has had his ups and downs over the years. Many of the guitarist's commercial pop-jazz efforts have wasted his skills as an improviser; when Ritenour is catering to NAC/smooth jazz radio, improvisation is the usually the first thing to go. But when Ritenour does have a chance to stretch out, he can be an appealing improviser. Although quite accessible, Rit's House is among his more memorable and substantial efforts. This 2002 release has a soul-jazz / post-bop outlook that often recalls the late '60s and early '70s; for the most part, it is the sort of album that guitarist Grant Green would have been comfortable recording during that era. But Ritenour's guitar playing owes a lot more to Wes Montgomery, who is obviously his primary influence on Gabor Szabo's "Mizrab", as well as original tunes like "78th & 3rd" (which features organist Joey DeFrancesco) and the dusky "Olinda". One of the album's best tracks has nothing to do with jazz : "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic". Featuring former Doobie Brothers vocalist Michael McDonald, this interesting remake of the Police's 1981 hit is not only a departure from the rest of the album it is also a big departure from the original version. While the Police's version was up-tempo pop / rock, Ritenour and McDonald transform "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" into an adult contemporary / quiet storm ballad. That track is the album's only vocal offering; the rest of Rit's House is instrumental. Arguably, 1992's Wes Bound is still Ritenour's best studio album certainly from a jazz perspective. But this album is also respectable, and those who enjoyed hearing the guitarist stretching out on that mostly straightahead disc will also find a lot to enjoy about Rit's House". - Alex Henderson\r\n """ -prixVente: "89.50" -delaiLivraison: App\Enum\TempsLivraisonEnum {#1864 …} -musicienOrchestre: "Lee Ritenour (guitar), George Duke, John Beasley (fender Rhodes), Marcus Miller, Melvin Davis (bass), Dave Carpenter (acoustic bass), Mitch Holder (acoustic guitar), Joey Defrancesco, Mark Stephens (organ B-3)…" -sonMusic: App\Enum\SonMusicEnum {#1133 …} -grammageMusic: App\Enum\GrammageMusicEnum {#1137 …} -rpmMusic: App\Enum\RPMMusicEnum {#1139 …} -lpsMusic: 2 -setBoxMusic: false -limitedEdition: true -preCommande: false -selectionAAD: false -extraitYoutube: "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enu30Ou5j2s" -referenceProduit: "Universal Play 33 1/3 43146" -titreMorceau: [ [ "nom" => "1. 78th & 3rd" "ordre" => 5 ] [ "nom" => "1. Smith at Sterling Sound from the original analog tapes and cut at 45 RPM !\r\n \r\n Recorded on an Ampex 200, using 3M-111 magnetic tape running at 15 inches per second.\r\n \r\n Gatefold old-style "tip-on" on jacket by Stoughton Printing.\r\n \r\n Plated and pressed at Quality Record Pressings !\r\n \r\n "Remastered by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound from the original analog tapes, the record was plated and pressed at Quality Record Pressings. The depth and space when those rich chromatic harmonies create a wide and well-defined soundscape, the timbre of the orchestra as a whole as well as individual instruments, and the thick, wooden sound of Wendell Marshall's bass are among the aural pleasures provided when you drop a needle on this platter; expect goose bumps". - Music = 5/5; Sonics = 4.5/5 - Jeff Wilson, The Absolute Sound, May-June 2015.\r\n \r\n "I chose the CD reissue of this album as one of my R2D4s for 2012, but now from Chad Kassem's Analogue Productions comes this QRP LP, and it's an occasion for popping corks. Released in 1950, this was Ellington's first LP, and he used the new medium to stretch out four of his biggest hits. The arrangements are jaw-droppingly gorgeous and the sound just slightly less so. Recorded by Fred Plaut, who later miked Kind of Blue and other Columbia classics, it has the dynamics, depth, and in-your-face tonal realism of a modern (mono) audiophile thumper. Among the best jazz albums ever. How about a 45 RPM pressing, Chad ?" - Fred Kaplan, for Stereophile - "Records To Die For" - February 2015.\r\n \r\n "Among the first recordings arranged and produced to take advantage of the LP's longer playing time, this album was released in 1950 on Columbia Records' classical imprint, Masterworks, with a whimsical cover by Stan Fraydas (author of Hoppy, the Curious Kangaroo) that's reproduced for this edition. (Columbia soon replaced it with an image more "modern" and more mundane.)... Freed from the 78 RPM single's three-minute constraint, Ellington could score and record concert-length arrangements similar to those enjoyed by his concert audiences. Three of the four selections, including 'Mood Indigo' and 'Sophisticated Lady,' are familiar Ellington classics stretched and elasticized to luxurious effect. The harmonically saturated, transparent mono sound is astonishing for any era of recording. It's sure to leave you swooning, and wondering how and why recorded sound has since gone so far south." - Michael Fremer, for Stereophile - "Records To Die For" - February 2015.\r\n \r\n "I have recently been obsessed with Masterpieces by Ellington, one of the best records I have ever heard in terms of music and production. Once you experience Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, and Elvin Jones in peak form, you're certain to agree. Unknown until 2004 and unheard until now, the music on this album represents one of the most influential groups in music history both performing in a musical style it had perfected. Coltrane personally decided to stash away the material, which was ultimately lost to time until it was discovered by the family of his first wife and brought to the attention of Impulse! It is impossible to overstate the breadth, spirit, musicianship, and sound of these recordings, two of which are originals that were captured on tape here and here alone. The Deluxe Edition of the album also includes seven alternate takes of the tracks from the same session, including four renditions of "Impressions".\r\n \r\n The first week of March in 1963 was busy for John Coltrane. He was in the midst of a two-week run at Birdland and was gearing up to record the famed John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman album, which he did on March 7. But there was a session the day before that was the stuff of legend, until now.\r\n \r\n On Wednesday, March 6, Coltrane and the quartet went to Van Gelder Studios in Englewood, NJ and cut a complete album's worth of material, including several original compositions that were never recorded elsewhere. They spent the day committing these to tape, taking time with some, rehearsing them two, three times, playing them in different ways and in different configurations.\r\n \r\n At the end of the day, Coltrane left Van Gelder Studios with a reference tape and brought it to the home in Queens that he shared with his wife, Naima. These tapes remained untouched for the next 54 years until Impulse! approached the family about finally releasing this lost album. Though the master tape was never found – Rudy Van Gelder wasn't one for clutter the reference tape was discovered to be in excellent condition.\r\n \r\n On this album, there are two completely unknown and never-before-heard originals. "Untitled Original 11383" and "Untitled Original 11386", both played on soprano sax. "11383" features an arco bass solo by Jimmy Garrison, a relative rarity, and "11386" marks a significant structural change for the quartet, in that they keep returning to the theme between solos, not typical in the quartet's repertoire.\r\n \r\n In addition to the two unheard originals, "One Up, One Down" released previously only on a bootleg recording from Birdland is heard here as a studio recording for the first and only time. It contains a fascinating exchange between Elvin Jones and Coltrane.\r\n \r\n "Impressions", one of Coltrane's most famous and oft-recorded compositions, is played here in a piano-less trio. In fact, McCoy Tyner lays out a number of times during this recording session. It's one of the more interesting aspects of this session and reflects the harmonic possibilities that Coltrane was known to be discussing regularly with Ornette Coleman around this time.\r\n \r\n This studio session also yielded Coltrane's first recording of "Nature Boy", which he would record again in 1965, and the two versions differ greatly. The one we know is exploratory, meandering. This version is tight, solo-less and clocking in at just over three minutes. The other non-original composition on the album is "Vilia", from Franz Lehár's operetta "The Merry Widow". The soprano version on the Deluxe Edition is the only track from this session to have been previously released.\r\n \r\n This incredible, once-in-a-lifetime discovery reveals a number of creative balances at work, like developing original melodies while rethinking familiar standards. Trying out some tunes first on tenor saxophone, then on soprano. Using older techniques like the arpeggio runs of his "sheets of sound" while experimenting with false fingerings and other newer sounds. This session was pivotal, though to call it such overlooks the fact Coltrane was ever on pivot, always pushing the pedal down while still calling on older, tested ideas and devices.
