Santana?s self-titled debut album announces the arrival of a new Guitar god. Made during the legendary bandleader?s most fruitful and creative period, the classic 1969 set functions as an accessible entry point into the tangy worlds of Latin music by way of an intoxicating blend of Afro-Cuban percussion, jazzy tempos, exotic leads, bluesy riffs, and psychedelic accents. Befitting such a classic, Mobile Fidelity?s 45 RPM 2 LP version of this epic work presents the music in the richest, most dynamic and realistic sound it?s ever enjoyed.\r\n
      \r\n
Improving upon the label's critically acclaimed 180 gram LP pressing, this deluxe 45RPM set is mastered from the original master tapes and overflows with the information, textures, and colors afforded by wider grooves. The result : Spacious, airy, and you-are-there sonics that trump all prior versions. In addition to correcting the imaging, Mobile Fidelity?s collectable version captures the full tonal range of Santana's guitar and nuances of his distinctive touch. It all brings you closer to the music and enhances your emotional connection to this stellar album.\r\n
      \r\n
Indeed, separation between Carlos Santana?s fluid fills, spicy solos, and broiling grooves and pianist Gregg Rolie?s soulful Hammond organ runs allows the music to come alive with a newfound freshness and radiance. Songs simmer, with each passage bursting forth with vibrant color. Just like the equally essential follow-up Abraxas, Santana also lays claim to one of the biggest (and unfortunate) production gaffes in music history. Until Mobile Fidelity fixed the error with its 180 gram LP and 24K Gold releases, Santana had never been heard correctly.\r\n
      \r\n
For nearly four decades, copies were produced with the left and right channels reversed, meaning that everything was placed in a backwards manner. This even extended to compilations on which individual songs from Santana were included. Rest assured that, in addition to boasting reference audiophile sonics, this 180g 45 RPM 2 LP set gets all the specifications exactly right. And with a record of this magnitude, you want everything to be perfect.\r\n
      \r\n
Bound by natural chemistry and earthy spirituality, the record?s innovative synthesis of myriad styles goes beyond anything that came before?as well as nearly everything that?s followed. Playing with the finest band that the iconic guitarist ever had, Santana doesn?t water down any exotic roots or simply incorporate mainstream Western styles into a Latin framework. This is a true hybrid, responsible for opening up borders, transcending cultural divides, and, most importantly, exhilarating the senses.\r\n
      \r\n
Released weeks before the band blew minds at Woodstock, the groundbreaking record stands alongside Miles Davis? Bitches Brew and Jeff Beck?s Beck-Ola as a pillar of rock fusion. Featuring the Top Ten radio smash ?Evil Ways? and jam favorite ?Soul Sacrifice,? it hasn?t aged a day. Hear like never before why Rolling Stone says Santana is #149 on its list of the Greatest Albums of All Time.

    -nom: "Moonflower"
    -informationComplementaire: null
    -description: """
      - Santana Bridges the Divide Between Live and Studio Material on Moonflower : 1977 Double Album Features Extraordinary Performances, Soulful Vibes, and Dynamic Mix of Latin, Rock, Funk, and Blues\r\n
      - Sourced from the Original Master Tapes and Strictly Limited to 3000 Numbered Copies: Mobile Fidelity’s 180 gram 33 RPM (2 LP) Set Plays with Audiophile-Quality Detail, Balance, and Imaging\r\n
      - 1/4” / 15 IPS original analog non-Dolby master to DSD 256 to analog console to lathe\r\n
      \r\n
Though it may seem strange now, Moonflower stood for nearly 15 years as Santana’s first and only live record released in the United States. This despite the fact that roughly half of the double album consists of new studio songs, including a zesty cover of the Zombies classic “She’s Not There” that reached the Top 30 of the singles charts. \r\n
      \r\n
However unconventional, the “split” strategy went over like gangbusters. Moonflower reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Top 200 and achieved double-platinum status feats the group would not again replicate for 22 years. These, and the beautiful quality of the program itself, are among the reasons why the 1977 effort remains viewed by critics and fans alike as must-have Santana.\r\n
      \r\n
Sourced from the original master tapes, pressed at Fidelity Record Pressing in California, housed in a Stoughton jacket, and strictly limited to 3000 numbered copies, Mobile Fidelity’s 180 gram 33 RPM (2 LP) set of Moonflower presents the record in audiophile sound for the first time on a domestic reissue. Part of the MoFi’s Santana catalog restoration series, this collectible version features quiet surfaces and black backgrounds that expose the critical details, liquid tones, and dynamic interplay central to Santana’s music. \r\n
      \r\n
The enhanced sonics extend not only to Carlos Santana’s six-string wizardry, but to the rhythmic, melodic, and vocal elements that course throughout both the studio and live cuts on Moonflower. The grip and depth of the bass lines; the wash of the organ; the scope and carry of the vocals; the extension and weight of the low-end frequencies; the rich textures of the guitars, percussive devices, and keyboards: all appear amid wide, balanced soundstages and image with right-sized dimensionality. \r\n
      \r\n
Significantly rooted in the styles and approaches that inform the group’s first three records, Moonflower captures the final appearances of iconic percussionist Jose “Chepito” Areas and go-to keyboardist Tom Coster on a Santana album. As he did during the preceding five-year stretch, Coster inhabits a large role here, sharing songwriting credits on a majority of the new cuts and helping steer the arrangements toward spiritually minded albeit concise directions that encompass vibrant Latin, rock, and blues themes that began to escape the ensemble shortly after his departure. \r\n
      \r\n
Close your eyes and feel the warmth of the sun on the R&B-kissed “I’ll Be Waiting”, anchored by Carlos Santana’s gliding fretwork and Greg Walker’s creamy vocals. Enter the cosmic universe of “Zulu”, on which Coster’s nimble phrasing opens the gate to polyrhythmic beats, knotty grooves, and interlocking funk. Grab the album cover and drift off to paradise amid the equally evocative “Flor d’Luna (Moonflower)”, a romantic slow dance that Carlos Santana ensures tiptoes en route to its blissful destination. Channeling a different spirit animal, the guitarist later lets loose on the hard-hitting “El Morocco”, on which he seemingly engages in a shootout with himself and wades into the rippling psychedelia that elevated the band’s early material.\r\n
      \r\n
Speaking of the past, Moonflower triumphs on that level as well. In more ways than one, the live selections and the caliber of the performances chosen for inclusion represent an abbreviated greatest-hits survey of the band up to that point. And, at the very least, a convincing argument about why Santana had progressed into one of the most formidable bands you could hope to see on a stage in the mid ‘70s. \r\n
      \r\n
Simultaneously representative and illustrative of the group’s breadth, tracks stem from the collective’s eponymous debut, Abraxas, and Santana III as well as the then-more recent Amigos and Festival. Whether you fall for the sidewinding spell of a spicy rendition of “Black Magic Woman / Gypsy Queen”, lose your head to the positively epic momentum of “Soul Sacrifice / Head, Hands & Feet”, or keep dropping the needle on the savory grace of the brilliant reading of “Europa (Earth’s Cry Heaven’s Smile)”, this pressing of Moonflower puts you and Santana’s first-chapter legacy in good hands.

When he returned to Van Gelder Studio the next year to record the follow-up, Moncur had ventured even deeper into experimental waters. Some Other Stuff was boldly avant-garde and found the trombonist with a cohort of fellow explorers including saxophonist Wayne Shorter, pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Cecil McBee, and drummer Tony Williams. The set of Moncur originals consisted of four expansive pieces including the freeform opener "Gnostic", the slyly swinging "Thandiwa", the playfully rhythmic "The Twins", a portrait of his twin brothers, and the drum feature "Nomadic", a showcase for Williams' prodigious talents.\r\n

This stereo Tone Poet Vinyl Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray (Cohearent Audio) from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180 gram vinyl at Record Technology Inc. (RTI), and packaged in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.

      \r\n
The brilliant arranger, composer, and pianist Gil Evans had already collaborated with Miles Davis on Birth of the Cool and Miles Ahead and made his own debut album Gil Evans & Ten for Prestige when he signed with World Pacific Records in 1958 and made the first of two albums for the label: New Bottle Old Wine with featured soloist Cannonball Adderley. The next year Evans was back in the studio to record the follow-up Great Jazz Standards with two different ensembles featuring the likes of trumpeter Johnny Coles, trombonists Curtis Fuller and Jimmy Cleveland, soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy, tenor saxophonist and clarinetist Budd Johnson, guitarist Ray Crawford, drummer Elvin Jones, and others. As the title promises, the album presents a program of great jazz standards leading off with Bix Beiderbecke's "Davenport Blues", a showcase for Coles, before launching into a shimmering version of Thelonious Monk's "Straight No Chaser" where Coles, Lacy, Fuller, and Evans all get the spotlight. A stunning presentation of Fran Landesman and Tommy Wolf's "Ballad of the Sad Young Men" and a no-nonsense take on Clifford Brown's "Joy Spring" close out the first side. On the flipside, John Lewis' "Django" gets an impressionistic arrangement full of surprises, while a modernistic version of Don Redman's "Chant of the Weed" is a solo vehicle for Johnson's clarinet. The album culminates with a soaring performance of the Evans original "Theme", later known as "La Nevada".\r\n

Mono & Stereo magazine's reviewer Matej Isak says Chad Kassem's efforts via his Quality Record Pressings pressing plant "goes beyond simple vinyl revival". "What can I say ? I have a few different copies of this album and this release is of a completely different nature of sound. Like with another unforgettable (release) Nat 'King' Cole Love Is The Thing (AAPP 824-45) this is as good as it gets, without having the real master tapes on hand. It's a celebration of analog". Isak also raves, "Everything is even more subtle and present. Astrud's vocals finally got the needed three-dimensionality and 'spirit' and Getz's saxophone breathes out of proportion. When compared to other pressings, for example, Astrud is a mere statue. Here, she came alive with the feeling of real life-size... With 45 RPM benefits, the album gained better transients and a sense of atmosphere. It moves you more intimately and straight to the core". Matej Isak, Mono & Stereo magazine, May 2013. Beyond highly recommended." Named a Mono & Stereo Strictly Vinyl Analog Award winner. Read the entire review. http://www.monoandstereo.com/2013/05/acoustic-sounds-stan-getz-joao-gilberto.html\r\n

"...these are all truly classic Verve titles that you simply don't want to miss...most importantly, the sound of these reissues is nothing short of astounding. Particularly the early Billie and Ella mono records are incredible treasures of sonic beauty. I'd definitely ask Santa for the whole set, or, if you want to cherry pick, the most classic titles. Whatever you decide, you owe yourself at least a half dozen!" Winner of a 2012 Positive Feedback Online Writers' Choice Award - Danny Kaey, Positive Feedback Online, November/December 2011\r\n

"...To say that the resulting new stereo master is anything but a major sonic breakthrough would be to make the understatement of the decade. Simply put, audiophile jargon and usual hyperbolas aside, this new release is like hearing the record for the very first time, in the studio, with Astrud and team granting you a personal performance for the night. There is just so much more information present, that you really can't fairly compare any of the previous releases with this one". - Danny Kaey, Positive Feedback, September/October 2011\r\n

The original master tapes for this title had not been used since 1980 previous to this reissue. Also, for this Analogue Productions reissue the decision was made to master and present this album as it was originally mixed to master tape. With very few exceptions all versions of this title to date, including the original, have had the channels incorrectly reversed. With this version, you'll hear this title as it was intended to be heard, without the channels reversed. And again, those reissues you've heard up until now - definitely still breathy, warm and rich - were made from something less than the master. Prepare to hear the veil removed. \r\n
      \r\n
Astrud Gilberto says that her husband, Joao, informed Stan Getz that she "could sing at the recording". Creed Taylor recalls that it took Getz's wife, Monica, to get both Astrud and Joao into the recording studio; Mrs. Getz had a sense that Astrud could make a hit. And Getz himself is on record saying that he insisted on Astrud's presence over the others' objections. So who's right? What does it matter ? The Gilbertos, Getz and the legendary Antonio Carlos Jobim followed up the bossa nova success of Jazz Samba with this, the defining LP of the genre. With one of the greatest hit singles jazz has ever known - each one who hears it goes "Ahhh!"\r\n

It peels back layers of murk without adding brightness or spotlighting or anything bad. Instead, it's as if layers of dust and dirt have been expertly cleaned away revealing a fresh, clear window onto the live musical event... (Earl) Wild's piano has never sounded as cleanly rendered or as well-focused. You'll see it as clearly as the skyscrapers. The finale has never packed such a ferocious wallop either... "Grade A++. This is a disc that I have never been wild about (though it was always one of HP's favorites). My complaint was the cavernous hole in the stage center, which made Earl Wild's piano sound tiny, distant and swamped with reverberation. Here mastering magic has been done by Kassem and his crew. The piano track, apparently not properly mixed back in '59, has been given the prominence it should always have had. Don't worry: The "stage" ambience (usually a bit of a misnomer, given that the BPO was seldom recorded on the stage of Symphony Hall, more often in the "orchestra section" of the hall, after the first-floor seats had been removed) has not been lost: it's just no longer overcooked, making a scintillating performance that much more immediate and exciting. \r\n
Gerry Mulligan Meets Ben Webster was just one of many "meets" albums that Gerry Mulligan appeared on during the period when this classic was recorded Nov. 3 and Dec. 2, 1959, in Los Angeles. Mulligan and Pepper Adams were the baritone saxophonists during the golden age of modern jazz, both masters of the unwieldy and deep-toned instrument.\r\n
      \r\n
History was made here, as was a classic record for the ages. Mulligan was an innovator of the west coast cool jazz style who flourished playing with all manner of jazz musicians. The tunes he and Webster recorded are smooth, lush and emotional, driven along by a rhythm section that swings with just the right amount of bop. The result is an album that's included among NPR's "Basic Jazz Record Library".\r\n
      \r\n
Seeking to offer definitive audiophile grade versions of some of the most historic and best jazz records ever recorded, Verve Label Group and Universal Music Enterprises' audiophile Acoustic Sounds vinyl reissue series utilizes the skills of top mastering engineers and the unsurpassed production craft of Quality Record Pressings. All titles are mastered from the original analog tapes, pressed on 180 gram vinyl and packaged by Stoughton Printing Co. in high-quality gatefold sleeves with tip-on jackets. Included in the December 2020 title releases for the series is the striking New York, N.Y., a high point for influential jazz composer and arranger George Russell. Russell, was an early proponent of "modal jazz", which featured fewer chord changes and encouraged soloists to improvise on the melody not on the harmony.\r\n
      \r\n
For this 1959 classic Russell assembled an all-star orchestra, including pianist Bill Evans (a frequent participant on Russell's recordings), Art Farmer, Bob Brookmeyer, John Coltrane, and Milt Hinton, among others. Singer Jon Hendricks provided a beatnik-style stream of consciousness narration that opened and closed the truly unique performance.\r\n

"Each step in our production process from title selection to mastering, pressing and packaging is designed to meet the highest standards, and we want everyone who hears these albums to feel the love and hard work we put into everything we do", says Chad Kassem CEO of Acoustic Sounds.

George Duke (keyboards, vocals), Tom Fowler, Byron Miller (bass), Lee Ritenour, Darryl Stuermer, George Johnson (guitar), Johnny "Guitar" Watson (guitar, vocals), Bruce Fowler (trombone), John Wittenberg (violin), Emil Richards (marimba), Janet Ferguson Hoff (voice), Ruth Underwood (marimba, gongs, percussion), Flora Purim (vocals), Airto (percussion), Ndugu (drums, gongs)\r\n
      \r\n
On the fourth album of his fusion cycle for the man from the Black Forest, George Duke substantially expanded the number of his colleagues. As before, drummer Leon "Ndugu" Chancler beats as the heart of the rhythm section, and the Brazilian couple, Airto and Flora are again on board. The ten tracks perform a stylistic balancing act. The jittery funk of "Chariot" and the smooth ballad "Someday" show off Duke's soulful vocal flair. Flora Purim crowns the complex "Look Into Her Eyes" with her spheric sound as she and guitarist George Johnson take care of business on this stratospheric piece with its bluesy electric shuffle. With two high-voltage guitarists (Daryl Stuermer and Byron Miller), "That's What She Said" points to the tie between rock and funk. The most eye-opening outing occurs with star guitarist Lee Ritenour stomping on "Rokkinrowl, I Don't Know", and its Hendrix parody. "Sister Sirene" shows that, naturally, the typical dreamy Duke instrumentals are not left off the album. An almost animistic soundscape is woven into the fabric of "Mashavu", and "Giant Child Within Us Ego" is a small fusion suite encompassing the spectrum from the classical to the Zappaesque finale. The title piece is indeed a blues, dished out pure and simple a far cry from the sounds of the preceeding piece with its mountains of synthesizers. Rather, the sultry delta heat, the acoustic simplicity and raw truth of the song prevail the blues.

With its intensive quartet, this 1975 recording again mirrors how far Duke, by his own admission, had moved away from the "smug and overly serious jazz musician" and towards a master of fusion, eager to experiment and add a note of humor to the music. With Santana drummer Leon "Ndugu" Chancler, bassist Alphonso "Slim" Johnson, and the Brazilian percussion magician Airto Moriera, Duke designed stunning scenarios in sound which once more reveals him to be one of the synthesizer pioneers. On "Dawn" he paints a fanciful daybreak atmosphere on the keyboards. On "Floop De Loop" he releases funky rushing rivulets from the keyboards. Whereas on the smooth rock piece "For Love" and soft ballad "Fools", he appears on the scene as a soulful singer. There's something slightly naughty coursing through the bluesy, laid-back funk miniature, "Foosh". Duke's former collaboration with the Mothers of Invention colored his versions of Zappa's "Echidna's Arf" and "Uncle Remus". There's a samba touch in the relaxed tropical magic of "Malibu", and the outro "The Aura" also swings to a Latin feel.

    -informationComplementaire: null
-description: "In many ways, this trio recording is a milestone in the career of this young Californian. Duke unveils more of his early experiments with the ARP synthesizer, as well as a new creativity on such more conventional keyboards, as the Wurlitzer, Fender Rhodes, and the clavinet. As a result, Faces in Reflection is characterized by a wide variety of tonal hues. The journey moves from the explosive "The Opening" on to the tender-tinged "Capricorn", which Duke had snatched from the Cannonball Adderley repertoire. Adderley had been the second major player he had worked with during that early period; Frank Zappa was the first. Two impressionistic solo intermezzi segue into the funky fusion escapade "Psychocomatic Dung", with superb interplay between drummer "Ndugu" and bassist John Heard. The title piece's secretive synth lines are the moments of calm before Duke's passionate love affair with Brazil on the B side. The most surprising excursion on this side is the vibrant and rhythmically intricate adaptation of Milton Nascimentos' "Maria Três Filhos", counterbalanced by the synth laboratory of "North Beach". Duke himself cherished the recordings; he stated that, "This was the first LP that really said what I wanted to say"."
