Blue Note Classic Vinyl Reissue Series All-Analog 180 gram Vinyl LP Mastered by Kevin Gray Directly from the Original Master Tapes and Manufactured at Optimal in Germany !\r\n
      \r\n
Blue Note Records has announced the continuation of the Classic Vinyl Reissue Series which presents 180 gram vinyl LP reissues in standard packaging mastered by Kevin Gray and manufactured at Optimal. The pressings are all-analog whenever an analog source is available, with Gray mastering directly from the original master tapes. While the first 16 titles of the series focused on the best-known Blue Note classics from the 1950s and 60s, the new run of titles curated by Don Was and Cem Kurosman broadens its scope to span the many eras and styles of the legendary label's eight-decade history presented by themes: Bebop, Hard Bop, Soul Jazz, Post-Bop, Avant-Garde, The 70s, The Rebirth, and Hidden Gems.\r\n
      \r\n
Bobbi Humphrey was one of the most prominent stars on the Blue Note roster of the 1970s. The flutist debuted on the label in 1971 with Flute In¸ the first in a run of six creative and highly enjoyable albums. On her breakout 1973 album Blacks and Blues, Humphrey hooked up with the forward-thinking producer Larry Mizell to create a jazz-funk classic that expanded her audience. It proved to be a winning combination, and the two joined forces again on Satin Doll the following year. \r\n
      \r\n
Their third and final collaboration would be on the great 1975 album Fancy Dancer. Humphrey's alluring flute dances through vibrant and ingenious arrangements by Larry and Fonce Mizell that skillfully wove together a broad range of influences from across the spectrum of black music. The set featured standout tracks like the Latin grooves of "Uno Esta", the laid-back jam "You Make Me Feel So Good", and the album's expansive closer "Please Set Me At Ease", which the innovative hip hop beatmaker Madlib memorably remade on his 2003 Blue Note remix album Shades Of Blue.\r\n

Serendipity plants the seed, careful planning and hard work bring an amazing collaboration to life. Four Seasons in Jazz : Live at Bernie's is the landmark live recording featuring jazz pianist and vocalist Anne Bisson and the finest musicians and engineers in Hollywood. A selection of popular jazz standards and original compositions by the evocative Canadian songstress was recorded direct-to-disc over two days by Bernie Grundman in Hollywood, California. Legendary engineer Michael C. Ross used a 100 % analog recording chain straight to Grundman's all-analog record cutting system to realistically capture every amazing moment.\r\n
      \r\n
Four Seasons in Jazz : Live at Bernie's is only the third direct-to-disc recording ever created at Bernie Grundman Mastering. The Grand Master of Audio Mastering himself supervised the audio-to-disc transfer. This exquisite release is the inspiration of two music lovers and audiophile industry luminaries, Gary L. Koh of Genesis Advanced Technologies (USA) and Wuti Larnroongroj of Brilliance Music (Thailand).\r\n

Newly Discovered Late 1965 Live Recording of Trane's Magnum Opus A Love Supreme Produced by Engineer Kevin Reeves with Extensive Liner Notes by Music Historian Ashley Kahn !\r\n
      \r\n
After nearly six decades, a private recording of a rare, nightclub performance by John Coltrane of his magnum opus, A Love Supreme, is available for the first time on vinyl 2 LP courtesy of Impulse Records ! Recorded in late 1965 on the culminating evening of a historic week-long run at The Penthouse in Seattle, A Love Supreme: Live In Seattle is a musical revelation of historic importance, capturing Coltrane as he began to expand his classic quartet adding Pharoah Sanders on second saxophone and Donald Garrett on second bass and catapulting him into the intense, spiritually focused final phase of his career.\r\n
      \r\n
The significance of A Love Supreme : Live In Seattle is heightened by the fact that Coltrane seldom performed his four-part suite after originally recording it in the studio in 1964. Composed and created as a public declaration of his personal spiritual beliefs and universalist sentiment, it became a best-seller and received a Grammy nod the next year. For more than six decades, it seemed the only recorded public performance of A Love Supremetook place at a French festival at Juan-Les-Pins in July 1965 and was released almost twenty years ago. The tape reels containing this performance from October 1965 sat in the private collection of Seattle saxophonist and educator Joe Brazil, heard by a few fortunate musicians and friends and largely unknown until now.\r\n
      \r\n
A Love Supreme : Live In Seattle is a fascinating and rare performance of the full suite, marked by a looser and more improvisational approach, and a overriding sense of communal participation – much like a Sunday church service; the lineup featured John Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders on saxophones, McCoy Tyner on piano, Elvin Jones on drums, and Jimmy Garrison and Donald (Rafael) Garrett on basses. Carlos Ward, then a young saxophonist just getting started on the scene, sat in as well.\r\n
      \r\n
As music historian Ashley Kahn puts it in the liner notes, A Love Supreme : Live In Seattle "offers the first evidence of the master of spiritual expression performing his signature work in the close confines of a jazz club... on October 2, 1965, a Saturday, in Seattle, the necessary elements were in alignment : music, players, venue, a spirit of connection, a certain political charge. Coltrane chose to perform it, and significantly, the moment was recorded". Kahn's extensive liner notes tell the story not only through the words of the musicians themselves, but also through a number of witnesses whose lives were changed by Coltrane's visit to Seattle in 1965 (his sole visit to the city as a leader), including Brazil, Ward, and bassist David Friesen, who states : "I've always pursued the spiritual aspect of the music and I still do. I remember sitting with Coltrane during one break that week and... what touched me was the way he treated other people. He showed mercy and kindness to people from what I could see around me for the week that I was there".\r\n
      \r\n
The music on A Love Supreme : Live In Seattle was recorded with a two-microphone set-up onstage, connected to an Ampex reel-to-reel machine, and the only copies of the tapes were well cared for, yielding a remarkably clear and distortion-free recording. "What's remarkable is that tapes from this era often suffer over the years from heat or moisture damage, or simply being stacked horizontally", writes engineer Kevin Reeves who produced this release. "However, these tapes are in excellent condition... and the results are among the best amateur recordings of John Coltrane we've had the pleasure to work on".\r\n
The story of the A Love Supreme suite is the story of John Coltrane his musical journey, and his spiritual path. It has become one of the most celebrated and influential recordings to come out of the jazz canon, revered and studied by musicians far beyond the jazz realm. Rolling Stone magazine consistently lists it among the top albums of all time. "Of his many musical creations, Coltrane looked upon A Love Supreme in a very special light", Kahn notes in the liner notes to A Love Supreme : Live In Seattle : "He called A Love Supreme a ‘humble offering to the Divine; no other composition or recording was similarly offered nor did he append his signature to any other work. A Love Supreme was as much an individual testament as it was a public statement – a sermon of universalist belief". \r\n
      \r\n
A Love Supreme : Live In Seattle now expands the story of both a great musician and a timeless piece of music !\r\n

      180 gram vinyl !\r\n
      \r\n
Ever since his time with John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra (1971-1973), the drummer Billy Cobham is one of electric fusion jazz's greatest heroes. Total Eclipse was the third album he made as a leader within just a few months, and here again he composed all the numbers himself. In the opening 'suite' titled "Solarization" (11 minutes long) he already shows his broad and certainly refined stylistic spectrum. Cobham's music leaps from high-energy jazz-rock with wild guitar and thundering volleys on the drums to highly original improvisations on the piano and winds.\r\n
      \r\n
Smooth electric Latin grooves and gripping funky numbers are not missing either. Cobham's handpicked band is bursting with virtuosos. A look at the names of the three-man wind section proves the point: Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker, Glenn Ferris are highlights in themselves. And the then 30-year-old band leader himself was the non plus ultra when it came to jazz-rock drumming technique his amazingly rapid drum volleys are just as sensational today as they were then. With this album this exceptional drummer will thrill all fans of first-class fusion sound similar to Weather Report or Return To Forever.\r\n

-description: "When he died at the age of 83 in October 2015, the local papers were restrained in their obituaries. For many jazz fans and cognoscenti, singer Mark Murphy was vastly underrated; they are right, as his prolific six-decade-long artistic career attests: during that career Murphy exhibited an inventive stylistic range that covered blues to bebop on through to modern jazz. His 1967 MPS recording lands in the middle of his "European decade", and it is one of the most beautiful, striking documents of his skills. "Midnight Mood" is characterized by the sophisticated dialogue between voice and eight musicians from the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland-Big band, but it begins a cappella : Murphy welcomes us with Duke Ellington’s "Jump For Joy" as he walks the vocal tightrope without a net, at the sametime offering us a taste of his unorthodox scat singing. With "I Don’t Want Nothin’" the ensemble offers us a swinging, bluesy, mischievous miniature, while Murphy's voice on "Why And How" shifts towards a noticeably darker tinge, surrounded by short penetrating solo interludes from the band. "Alone Together" reveals a masterpiece of phrasing over syncopated piano play; "You Fascinate Me So" emphasizes Murphy's romantic ardor. "Hopeless" unfolds with overwhelming intensity à la Sinatra, and "Sconsolato" is served with a casual Hispanic flair. With subtly nuanced tenderness on "My Ship" and "I Get Along ...", Murphy evokes a depths-of-night ambience in dialogue with the keys, while "Just Give Me Time" reflects a dark sensuality that swaggers between Swing and Bossa.\r\n"

Owning both this disc and Live at Slugs', Volume 1 is essential for hardcore jazz fans. Part two of the Slugs' date is just as impressive and again feature three originals all penned by the group. Here we get a better example of Tolliver's compositional work with the touching Coltrane tribute "Our Second Father". Again Tolliver's trumpet is simply stunning. The rhythm section of Cecil McBee and Jimmy Hopps also deserve mention as these two really drive the quartet along in a similar fashion to Garrison and Jones did with Coltrane. The McBee original Wilpan's also highlights the strength of McBee's writing and is probably the pick of the tunes here. \r\n

Blue Note Classic Vinyl Reissue Series All-Analog 180 gram Vinyl LP Mastered by Kevin Gray Directly from the Original Master Tapes and Manufactured at Optimal in Germany !\r\n
      \r\n
Blue Note Records is pleased to present the Blue Note Classic Vinyl Reissue Series, a continuation of their acclaimed Blue Note 80 Vinyl Reissue Series which was launched in celebration of the label's 80th anniversary in 2019. The Classic Series will once again feature all-analog 180 gram vinyl pressings in standard packaging that are mastered by Kevin Gray directly from the original master tapes and manufactured at Optimal in Germany. The first 16 titles of the Classic Series will focus on the enduring classics of the Blue Note catalog, kicking off in December 2020 with the release of two masterpieces pianist McCoy Tyner's The Real McCoyand trumpeter Lee Morgan's The Sidewinder. The Classic Series will be on-going, running alongside the Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series which is produced by Joe Harley.\r\n
      \r\n
In 1967, pianist McCoy Tyner was ready for a new start. He had left the seminal John Coltrane Quartet two years prior and moved on from Coltrane's label Impulse! Records, as well. With his Blue Note debut The Real McCoy, he made his masterpiece and firmly established himself as a creative force of his own. Featuring a world class quartet with Tyner joined by tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Elvin Jones, the album presented five enduring Tyner originals including "Passion Dance", "Search for Peace", and "Blues on the Corner". One can hear the tumultuous 1960s in his playing, grounded with Tyner's own spirituality, contrasting percussive explosions with his own gentle nature. The music is invigorating and full of surprises, giving listeners a definitive look at the brilliance of the great McCoy Tyner.\r\n
